On my hunt around the intenet to bring you the best places to sell art online, I came accross a great site called I Vote for Art.

The site is pretty new to the scene, but is causing quite a stir due to a very nice addition. ‘I vote for art’, as the name suggests, has a very smart voting feature. The more popular a piece of artwork is, the more prominently it will be featured. You can sell one-off originals such as paintings, limited edition prints or open edition prints – it is entirely up to you. Also, you don’t have to sell your artwork exclusively on ‘i vote for art’.

So I sugegst as part of your plan, you should get over there and give it a try.

Ok, so we established that if you want to sell more art online, you need a good blog. So how do you get started?

There are two favourite ways of testing the water blogging, without having to buy a domain name or get hosting. These are Blogger and WordPress. Both are very easy to use and you can start posting your artwork immediately.

Here’s a couple of ideas to get you going as well:

1. Write a good quality ‘about me’ page. Give the readers a real insight into who you are as an artist. Add interesting stories if you have them.

2. Add a brief description to each picture that you put on. Why did you create it?

Successful artists blog

Many artists I know that sell art online also have a blog. If you want to sell more art then maybe you should too.

So what is bloggging in a nutshell?
Blogging is basically a web-based diary or journal.

So why should artists have a blog?
Blogging is a very simple, fast method of getting your work online in a format that people can easily see. An excellent example of this is Jon Burgerman. Jon puts a huge amount of work onto his site. In doing this I believe he acheives the following:

He provides a “community” feel by allowing site visitors to post feedback to his journal entries.
He has an archive of work that you can browse through to get to really understand his style and how it has developed.
He is able to get people to subscribe to his site. This means he can effectively keep in contact with ‘fans’.
He also has a shop attached to the site enabling people that like his work to purchase it directly.

These are just a few of the many good reasons to get blogging.
